Health and Environmental Disclaimer

Please read this before booking. It explains what Our Standards do and do not guarantee, what is outside anyone's control, and what to do if you have sensitivities.
Summary
Purestay LLC is a curated collection of independently owned vacation rental homes. It is not a medical provider, an environmental testing company, an industrial hygienist, or a certification body.
All low-tox and wellness information on the platform is warranted by the host who provides it. Purestay does not perform clinical testing, laboratory air or water quality analysis, or medical validation of any property.
For guests: Purestay makes no guarantee or warranty of any kind about the condition of any home. No stay is guaranteed to be reaction-free and no home is guaranteed to be free of detectable scent. Guests with environmental sensitivities assume all risks associated with staying in a private residence.
For hosts: Our Standards are hospitality requirements, not medical protocols. Hosts are prohibited from making medical claims or cure guarantees.
1. Purpose
Purestay helps travelers find short-term rental homes that hold to a defined set of low-tox standards. All listings are independently owned and operated by hosts. Information about materials, products, air filtration, water filtration, and similar features is warranted by the host and reviewed by Purestay for alignment with Our Standards.
These standards are hospitality requirements. They are not medical certifications and must not be interpreted as guarantees of health outcomes, medical suitability, or complete environmental safety.
2. No Medical Advice
Nothing on the Purestay platform — including listing descriptions, host disclosures, badges, filters, educational content, or support responses — constitutes medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, or professional healthcare guidance.
Purestay does not diagnose any medical condition. Guests should consult licensed medical professionals regarding their personal health needs, and qualified environmental specialists regarding environmental concerns. Booking a stay through Purestay is never a substitute for professional medical advice or independent environmental testing.
3. THE FRAGRANCE-FREE STANDARD — WHAT IT IS AND WHAT IT IS NOT
This section is important. Please read it in full before booking.
3.1 What Purestay requires of hosts
Every host in the Purestay collection warrants to Purestay that they use fragrance-free products in the operation of their home. This applies to:
- cleaning products used in turnover and routine cleaning
- laundry products used on bedding, towels, and linens
- guest toiletries provided in the home
Synthetic fragrance is never permitted. Essential oils and other natural fragrance sources are permitted only where the host has affirmatively disclosed that use on the listing. The requirement is disclosure and control of fragrance sources, not the absence of every possible scent. Hosts are also expected to ventilate the home during turnover where weather, security, and building conditions reasonably permit.
Purestay holds hosts to this standard and enforces it. See Section 3.6.
3.2 NO GUARANTEE. NO WARRANTY.
PURESTAY MAKES NO GUARANTEE, REPRESENTATION, OR WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, THAT ANY HOME IS FREE OF FRAGRANCE, SCENT, ODOR, VOLATILE COMPOUNDS, ALLERGENS, OR ANY OTHER SUBSTANCE, OR THAT ANY GUEST WILL NOT EXPERIENCE A REACTION OF ANY KIND.
The fragrance-free standard describes products and practices that Purestay requires of hosts. It is not a measurement, a test result, a certification, or a description of the actual condition of the air in any home. Purestay does not test, sample, monitor, or verify air quality in any property, and no listing, badge, filter, or designation should be understood otherwise.
Compliance with the standard is carried out by independent hosts and by the people they employ or contract. It is an operational process performed by human beings. Like any such process, it is subject to error, oversight, substitution, miscommunication, and circumstances no one anticipated. Purestay requires the standard and enforces it. Purestay does not and cannot warrant that it is met perfectly in every home at every moment.
Purestay's review of a listing is an operational review for alignment with Our Standards. It is not an inspection, an audit, a test, or a certification, and it does not transfer responsibility for the condition of any home from the host to Purestay.
3.3 Factors outside the control of Purestay and the host
Even where a host fully complies with the standard, scent can be present in a home for reasons no one controls. Neither Purestay nor the host is responsible for any of the following:
Scents introduced by people. Guests, their companions, and their belongings bring scent into a home — perfume, cologne, deodorant, hair and skin products, laundered clothing and luggage, cleaning or personal products a guest brings with them, smoking outside the property, and cooking. Residue from a prior guest may persist after departure notwithstanding cleaning and ventilation.
Conditions outside the home. Neighboring properties, adjacent or shared units, landscaping and pesticide application on nearby land, agricultural activity, wildfire smoke, general outdoor air quality, traffic, and construction.
The building itself. Off-gassing from furnishings, flooring, paint, adhesives, cabinetry, and construction materials, including materials installed before the host acquired the property. HVAC systems may carry scent between rooms or, in multi-unit buildings, between units.
Third parties. Where a host uses an outside cleaning company or commercial laundry service, the host is responsible for directing that service to use compliant products, but a third party's supplies, staffing, and practices can vary without notice.
Service animals. Applicable disability law may require a host to accommodate a service animal regardless of a general pet-free preference, and prior animal presence cannot be guaranteed against.
Time and use. Homes are lived in. Conditions change between the moment a listing is reviewed and the moment a guest arrives.
3.4 Individual sensitivity
Sensitivity thresholds vary enormously between individuals. A home that is entirely comfortable for one guest may produce a reaction in another. There is no level of compliance with Our Standards that eliminates this variation, and Purestay makes no representation that any home is appropriate for any particular person.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PURESTAY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND ANY WARRANTY THAT ANY HOME IS SUITABLE FOR ANY GUEST'S HEALTH CIRCUMSTANCES.
3.5 What guests must do
If you have fragrance sensitivity, chemical sensitivity, asthma, allergies, or another condition that makes scent exposure a health concern, you are responsible for your own due diligence:
- Read the listing and the Home Health Profile in full, including any disclosed essential oil use.
- Message the host before booking about anything specific to you — the products they use, ventilation, prior pets, recent renovations, laundry arrangements, neighboring conditions, or anything else relevant to your circumstances.
- Understand that Purestay's review is operational, not an inspection or a test.
- On arrival, assess the home yourself and notify the host promptly if anything seems inconsistent with what was disclosed.
If your condition requires a medically controlled environment, laboratory-verified conditions, or professionally validated remediation, Purestay is not an appropriate substitute for those things, and you should not book in reliance on platform descriptions.
3.6 Enforcement
Fragrance-free is a required standard, not a preference, and Purestay enforces it. On a credible report that a host is not meeting the standard, Purestay may immediately and temporarily suspend the listing from the collection pending evaluation, and following that evaluation may require correction, extend the suspension, or remove the listing permanently. The full process is set out in Section 11 of the Host Agreement.
Enforcement is Purestay's mechanism for maintaining the integrity of the collection. It is not a guarantee to any individual guest, is not compensation, and does not create any right to a refund from Purestay, which does not hold guest funds.
4. Other Standards and Their Limits
The remaining required conditions — natural-fiber bedding and towels, a low-tox kitchen, and at least one air purifier available in the home — are likewise warranted by the host and reviewed by Purestay for alignment, not independently verified.
No property listed on Purestay is guaranteed to be toxin-free, VOC-free, EMF-free, allergen-free, pesticide-free, chemically sterile, universally safe for all sensitivities, or medically appropriate for every guest.
Environmental conditions in any private residence are dynamic and change for reasons outside anyone's control.
5. Host-Warranted Information
Hosts are solely responsible for the accuracy of all listing content, Home Health Profile disclosures, environmental claims, amenities, photographs, and property conditions.
Purestay may request photographs, documentation, or clarification, but Purestay does not perform laboratory testing, clinical inspection, industrial hygiene testing, air quality testing, VOC analysis, or water quality certification.
Any review or approval by Purestay is an operational review for alignment with Our Standards only. It is not a scientific certification, an inspection, or a medical validation.
Hosts are prohibited from making medical claims, cure guarantees, detox claims, or representations that a stay will resolve or prevent illness.
6. Service Animals, Allergens, and Prior Exposure
In compliance with applicable disability and housing laws, service animals may be permitted in properties regardless of general pet-free preferences.
As a result, neither the host nor Purestay can guarantee that a property has never housed a service animal, a prior pet, or a prior environmental trigger. Guests with severe animal dander allergies or extreme environmental sensitivity must communicate directly with the host before booking.
Pet-free, fragrance-free, and allergy-aware descriptions describe operational practices, not absolute lifetime guarantees about a physical space.
7. Arrival and Reporting
On arrival, guests are responsible for their own assessment of the property. If the property materially differs from what the host disclosed or from Our Standards — for example, a scented product in use, or undisclosed essential oil use — notify the host promptly and contact support@purestay.co.
Prompt notice matters. It gives the host a reasonable opportunity to remedy the issue and gives Purestay the ability to act on the listing. Delayed reporting may limit what either party can do.
Purestay does not hold guest funds and cannot issue a refund. Any refund is issued by the host under the host's cancellation policy.
8. No Medical Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Purestay disclaims liability for allergic reactions, asthma attacks, chemical sensitivity reactions, autoimmune flare-ups, symptom recurrence, medical treatment costs, relocation costs, personal health decisions, and guest-specific health outcomes arising from a stay at any property.
Purestay does not guarantee symptom relief or any medical benefit associated with staying at a property. Use of the platform is at your own risk.
9. Purestay's Role
Purestay is a curated collection of independently owned homes. Purestay does not own the homes, manage the properties, operate the rentals, perform remediation services, provide environmental certifications, provide travel insurance, provide medical advice, or act as a landlord, property manager, or healthcare provider.
The rental relationship exists directly between the guest and the independent host. Purestay's role is described in Section 1 of the Terms of Service.
10. Acknowledgement and Assumption of Risk
By creating an account, submitting a booking, or using the Purestay platform, you acknowledge and agree that:
- you have read this disclaimer in full, including Section 3
- Our Standards describe products and practices required of hosts, not guaranteed conditions of any home
- Purestay makes no guarantee, representation, or warranty that any home is free of fragrance, scent, or any other substance, or that you will not experience a reaction
- Purestay does not inspect, test, sample, or verify any home, and its review of a listing is operational only
- scents introduced by other guests, by neighboring properties, by building materials, and by outdoor conditions are outside the control of the host and of Purestay
- individual sensitivity varies and no standard eliminates that variation
- hosts warrant their own listing conditions, and responsibility for the condition of a home rests with the host
- you assume the risks associated with staying in a private residence, including the risk of exposure to substances to which you may be sensitive
- you accept responsibility for your own health decisions and for your own due diligence before booking
If you are unwilling to accept these terms, do not book through Purestay.
